A Colorado Gunman Opened Fire During The Screening Of Dark Knight Rises, 12 People Killed And Many Injured

20 Jul

In the early hours of Friday morning in Aurora, Colorado a 24 year-old gunman James Holmes entered the exit doors of Century 16 Movie Theater and walked in to a crowded movie full of children, families and teens gased the theater and opened fire. It was stated that he was wearing a gas mask, bullet proof fest and was armed with tear gas. He was also armed with three weapons a rifle, handgun and the last weapon was found in the theater. He was arrested outside the theater in a parking lot by his car and is believed to have acted alone. James told police he had explosives at his apartment as well, which was cleared out and checked. 12 people were announced dead and the amount injured is about 40. A video  was recorded of people running out the theater in bloody clothes.

President Obama was notified during the morning and released this statement:

Michelle and I are shocked and saddened by the horrific and tragic shooting in Colorado. Federal and local law enforcement are still responding, and my Administration will do everything that we can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time. We are committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded. As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family. All of us must have the people of Aurora in our thoughts and prayers as they confront the loss of family, friends, and neighbors, and we must stand together with them in the challenging hours and days to come.”

“Their are gonna be other days for politics, this I think is a day for prayer and reflection”

This is truly a time of sadness, my prayers go out to all those effected by this unfortunate situation that has taken place. What ever your religion is and pray. I believe this is a time for us as a nation, us as a people to come together and stop being so divided that we can’t stand together at all times, instead of only when something tragic such as this happens. Something as simple as going to enjoy a movie as a family, with friends, a first date we as a society now fear, we can’t go out an have a good time and enjoy one another’s laughter, hugs, smiles and company. Something is wrong there and it needs to change. We must be the change we want to see and it all starts with looking in the mirror.
